hymn is not in ELW. The text is by Jochen Klepper, a German journalist and poet
who was married to a Jewish woman. Upon realizing he could not protect his wife
or stepdaughters during Hitler’s regime Klepper, his wife, and youngest
stepdaughter, Renate, committed suicide. An older daughter, Brigitte, escaped
